Hunter Knife Replica Project

So I have decided I am going to make a Hunter's Knife.

No, not plastic, resin or MDF.

Steel..

So this thread will document my progress.

This was the last "fantasy" weapon I made. I was going for the hand forged, over sized bowie knife someone might find handy in a zombie apocalypse complete with eagle beak for skull crushing.

It's name is Mike.



The Hunters knife will be about an inch shorter and weigh less as well.

So....

Cold rolled steel or Stainless?

1/4 or go nuts and use 3/8. 1/4 is pretty beefy but 3/8 seems more realistic to the models.

I have not spent much time in the fab shop in years. Getting kinda excited about the project.

Have you thought about doing a "test" build with a 3D printer?

I think I have all the data I need to go steel on this one.

A 3D printer is high on my list of toys to acquire however.

Ok so I finally got around to making a prototype.



1/4" Cold Rolled Steel but I think I want to go 5/16

Hole in the blade and the last one in the handle are a bit too big and I am still tinkering with finish ideas. I kinda rushed it out of the shop as it was getting cold and late.

It weighs in a 1LB 9Oz and actually feels great in the hand. It would do some serious damage and break some bones as a fighting knife and you certainly would not want someone to throw it at you.
