So I'm hoping my gaming won't be screwed...

I swapped over to U-verse (just phone and internet) b/c my DSL line with them was constantly going down. Now, I'm not a complete electronics idiot - but some of this stuff does confuse me a little. Anyway, I had no internet for 2 days and since I use it for work ( and gaming ) I was willing to do whatever to get it back on....which turned out to be going to Uverse and getting a $20 smaller bill, etc. etc. etc. 

Not until AFTER I had it swapped over did I read some negative stuff about ping issues, etc. 

The good news is that there's no contract with it - so I can bail if I need to I guess...

Anyone else have Uverse and play online with it? My DSL worked great, even at just 6MB. They are saying I'll get 28 MB now but doing a quick speed test after the guy left, it's 23 MB. These days the big companies just don't know the meaning of "under promise - over deliver." LOL 

Oh well. Hope it won't screw me next month. They just about refused to come out to fix my DSL line... I could have pushed 'em I guess...but I guess we'll see how this goes...

Hang on, you get 23 Meg on a DSL line? Like the copper phone wire?

I keep getting told by all our providers that 1 Meg is the best we can get - and that's theoretical. Currently I run at 700K actual downloads, with no hope of improvement unless I pay to install fibre optic (cable isn't available in my area )

Well, that's the part that confuses this old man. I even asked the guy - I was like "OK, so I'm getting my DSL (6mb - 4.5 in reality) on the lines now - and somehow you're going to "switch" me over to something that gets 28 mb? - and it uses the same exact lines? His answer: "yes."

They told me on the phone that the line from wherever to the box in my neighborhood ( which is on the corner about 3 houses from me ) is fiber optic.

Tested again this morning, the Ping is better ( than last night ) at 41ms - and the speed is showing 22.93mbps - upload is 1.96

As long as they don't enforce the 250gb cap I guess I'm ok. Service guy said he'd never heard of it.

Anything 15MB and up is fine for gaming.

The PSN rarely sees speeds that are equal to your ISP speeds.

Ok good. Well, I've been playing BF4 and other games online at 4.5mb and didn't really have any problems that I know of... we'll see.
